Tilers in the Clare Valley and Mid North

The Clare Valley and Mid North sit 1.5 to 3 hours north of Adelaide. The region takes in the wine towns of Clare, Auburn and Watervale, the farming centres of Balaklava, Riverton and Saddleworth, and the historic mining and railway towns of Burra and Peterborough. It is a place of stone cottages, working farms, cellar doors and quiet main streets. Summers are hot and dry, winters cold, and the Clare hills sit higher and cooler than the plains. Homes range from 1850s stone to new builds.

    About the region

Tiling in the Clare Valley and Mid North

SA Tiling Pro is based in Adelaide and works across all of South Australia, including the Mid North. Travel is arranged as part of the job, so a bathroom in Gladstone or a splashback in Burra gets the same tiler and the same standard as a job in the suburbs. Quotes are free and carry no obligation. We handle bathrooms, kitchens, floors, feature walls, outdoor areas, commercial spaces, waterproofing and repairs, and bring more than 20 years of experience to every site. We are fully licensed and insured.

Stone cottages and villas from the 1850s onward are common, especially in Burra, Clare, Mintaro and Auburn, along with railway-era housing in Peterborough. The larger towns have post-war brick homes and some newer builds, and the surrounding districts are dotted with stone and brick-veneer farmhouses.

    Local tiling considerations

    • Heritage stone in Burra and Mintaro

Both towns are State Heritage Areas, and many older cottages across the region have uneven floors, soft lime mortar and some rising damp. Substrates are levelled and checked for moisture before tiling, and tile and grout choices are kept in step with the character of the building.

    • Clay soils and floor movement

Much of the Mid North plains sits on heavy clay soils that swell in wet winters and shrink over dry summers. Floor tiling is laid with movement joints in line with AS 3958.1 so slabs can move without cracking the tiles.

    • Rainwater tanks and bore water

Properties outside the towns often run on tank or bore water. Hard bore water leaves mineral scale on tiles and grout, so showers are set up with dense, sealed grout that is easier to keep clean.

    • Frost, heat and outdoor tiling

Clare Valley winters bring frost and summers push well past 35 degrees, so external tiles and adhesives must cope with wide thermal swings. Balconies and alfresco areas are waterproofed to AS 4654 and laid with frost-resistant tiles.

    Common projects here

    • • Bathroom renovations in stone cottages
    • • Ensuite upgrades in post-war brick homes in Clare and Balaklava
    • • Farmhouse kitchen splashbacks
    • • Slip-rated floor tiling for cellar doors and tasting rooms
    • • Waterproofing and retiling in Clare Valley guest accommodation
    • • Alfresco and verandah tiling on rural properties

    Services

Tiling services available in the Clare Valley and Mid North

Do you travel as far as Peterborough and Burra, or only the Clare Valley?
We cover the whole region, from Balaklava and Riverton in the south to Peterborough in the north, and everything across the 145 suburbs and localities in between. Travel is arranged as part of the job and factored into the quote. If you are in South Australia, we can get to you.
How does scheduling work for a regional job?
We start with a free quote, usually from a site visit or from photos and measurements you send through. Regional work is grouped into consecutive days where possible so the job runs straight through rather than in short trips. Our hours are Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm.
Our farmhouse is on tank water and has an old concrete floor. Does that change anything?
It changes the preparation more than the tiling. The floor is checked for level, cracks and moisture, then waterproofed to AS 3740 in wet areas before any tile goes down. For tank or bore water we recommend a dense, sealed grout that resists staining and mineral build-up in the shower.
Do you charge extra for travel?
For metropolitan Adelaide, no. For regional and remote work we factor travel into the written quote up front so there are no surprises, and we group regional jobs where we can to keep costs down.
Can you quote from photos and measurements?
For straightforward jobs, yes. Send photos and rough measurements with the quote form and we will give you an indicative price, then confirm it on site before work starts.
