    Tilers in the Adelaide Hills

The Adelaide Hills sit 20 to 50 minutes east of the Adelaide CBD, in the Mount Lofty Ranges. The region takes in leafy townships such as Stirling and Aldgate, the historic village of Hahndorf, and Mount Barker, one of South Australia's fastest-growing centres. Further out, Woodside, Lobethal and Gumeracha sit among farms, orchards and vineyards. Homes range from 1800s stone cottages to 1970s bush-block houses and new estate builds. The climate is cooler and wetter than the plains, and that shapes how we tile here.

    About the region

    Tiling in the Adelaide Hills

SA Tiling Pro is based in Adelaide and services all of South Australia, and the Hills are close to home. Quotes are free and carry no obligation, and we come to site to measure. Typical Hills jobs are bathroom and ensuite renovations, kitchen splashbacks, floor tiling, and alfresco areas on new builds around Mount Barker and Nairne. We also do waterproofing, commercial tiling, tile repairs and regrouting. We have more than 20 years of tiling experience and are fully licensed and insured. Hours are Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm.

Older townships such as Stirling, Aldgate and Hahndorf have 1800s stone cottages and 1960s to 1980s brick and timber homes on large, sloping bush blocks. Mount Barker, Nairne and Littlehampton have added large new housing estates since the 2010s, while farmhouses and small acreages make up much of the rest of the region.

    Local tiling considerations

    • Bushfire-prone building rules

Much of the Hills sits in a designated bushfire protection area, and many new builds and extensions carry a bushfire attack level rating. Tiles are non-combustible, which makes them a sound choice for alfresco floors, entries and external walls where the rules limit combustible materials.

    • Frost, rain and slip ratings

Hills winters bring frosts and far more rain than the plains. For alfresco areas, steps and pool surrounds we use low-absorption porcelain with a slip rating classified under AS 4586, and we waterproof balconies over living spaces to AS 4654.

    • Sloping blocks and timber floors

Many older Hills homes sit on sloping sites with suspended timber floors or split levels. Timber substrates need sheeting and levelling before tiling, or the floor flexes and tiles crack. We prepare substrates in line with AS 3958.1.

    • Stone cottages and heritage homes

Stone cottages in Hahndorf, Stirling and the older townships often have uneven floors, walls out of plumb and damp in the masonry. We allow time for levelling and damp checks, and we waterproof wet areas to AS 3740 so a new bathroom does not damage old walls.

Tiling services available in the Adelaide Hills

Do you travel to the Adelaide Hills for small jobs?
Yes. We are based in Adelaide and service all of South Australia, and the Hills are a short drive. Regrouting, repairs and single-room jobs are all welcome. Quotes are free and carry no obligation.
When is the best time to book a Hills bathroom renovation?
Book as early as you can, and think about the season. Wet Hills winters slow the drying of screeds, waterproofing and adhesives, so we plan curing time into the program. Once we have measured and you have chosen tiles, we confirm a start date.
Will outdoor tiles cope with Hills frosts and rain?
Yes, if the right tile is chosen and laid properly. We use low-absorption porcelain or vitrified tiles that do not soak up water, with a slip rating suited to wet conditions under AS 4586. Correct falls and drainage matter too, so water does not sit on the surface.
Do you charge extra for travel?
For metropolitan Adelaide, no. For regional and remote work we factor travel into the written quote up front so there are no surprises, and we group regional jobs where we can to keep costs down.
Can you quote from photos and measurements?
For straightforward jobs, yes. Send photos and rough measurements with the quote form and we will give you an indicative price, then confirm it on site before work starts.
